Southwaite Green lies on the North Western edge of the Lake District, 5 minutes from Cockermouth and 20 to 30 minutes from Keswick, driving.  Cockermouth is a lovely 40 minute walk across the fields, beside the river, but be careful iwth dogs as the fields often contain livestock!  Cycling to Keswick takes around 3 hours, mostly on the Coast to Coast route.

 

Cockermouth is a beautiful little Georgian tow, with art galleries, museums, cafes, pubs and its own auction house, as well as shops and a supermarket.  Keswick is a popular tourist destination on Derwentwater, a little larger than Cockermouth, with plenty to see do, eat and drink.

 

As well as these you can also explore the towns around the Solway Firth, such as Maryport and Allonby, or head north to Carlisle and the Scottish Border and Roman Wall.

 

Of course, the country around Southwaite Green is naturally stunning, with mountains, lakes and valleys all in easy reach walking, cycling or driving.
