Local Area

Set in ten acres of idyllic grounds brimming with plentiful wildlife and offering stunning views over Paddle Beck, you can find the brilliant quartet of pet-friendly eco properties that make up the Southwaite Green Cottages.

Southwaite Green lies on the North Western edge of the Lake District, 5 minutes from Cockermouth and 20 to 30 minutes from Keswick, driving. Cockermouth is a lovely 40 minute walk across the fields, beside the river, but be careful with dogs as the fields often contain livestock! Cycling to Keswick takes around 3 hours, mostly on the Coast to Coast route.

Cockermouth is a beautiful little Georgian tow, with art galleries, museums, cafes, pubs and its own auction house, as well as shops and a supermarket. Keswick is a popular tourist destination on Derwentwater, a little larger than Cockermouth, with plenty to see do, eat and drink.

As well as these you can also explore the towns around the Solway Firth, such as Maryport and Allonby, or head north to Carlisle and the Scottish Border and Roman Wall.

Of course, the country around Southwaite Green is naturally stunning, with mountains, lakes and valleys all in easy reach walking, cycling or driving.

A large supermarket and friendly pubs can be found in nearby the village of Cockermouth.

Just a short trip by car from the cottage will bring you to the Western Lakes, including Buttermere, Loweswater, and Ennerdale, winner of 'Britain's Best View'.

The Lake District is the best-loved country park in the British Isles and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spellbinding scenery, spectacular mountains and shimmering lakes combine to make this the most scenic area of Britain.

Enjoy some of the best fine dining in the country or walk for miles on well-mapped trails.

Bring your mountain bike for some of the best trail action in the country or take a steamer trip across Lake Windermere.

Cumbria has many great sports clubs and Keswick Golf Club is no exception. Located 4 miles East of Keswick on Derwentwater in the heart of the Lake District, the golf course is easily approached from the A66 at Threlkeld - the main route from Penrith to the West Coast. The golf club is renowned for its outstanding Lakeland views and superb facilities. Sitting on Threlkeld Common the course has scenic panoramic views of Blencathra - one of England's highest mountains - Skiddaw, Clough Head and other North Lakeland fells.

There's so much to see and do, you'll want to stay at the Southwaite Green Cottages any time of year just to take it all in.
